1.0   General Requirements
  1. The Stratocacher must have TWO basic components which is CAN-SAT and Recovery System.

  2. The Stratocacher recovery propeller must be able to spin upon descent.

  3. Only one recovery method can be used, whether a Parachute or Rotating Blade.

  4. The maximum dimension of the Stratocacher is 150 mm Height and 75 mm Diameter. (Can-Sat + Recovery Method Compartment)

  5. The total weight of the Stratocacher is 300 g. Landing damper can be made from soft materials such as polystyrene.

  6. Stratocacher shall able to perform Secondary Mission where the Stratocacher shall measure Pressure, Temperature, and Altitude data and save it using data logger.

2.0   CAN-SAT Requirements

  1. All the components of the CAN-SAT must fit inside a standard MR. Potato can (115 mm height and 75 mm diameter). An exemption can be made for radio antennas and GPS antennas, which can be mounted externally (on the top or bottom of the can, not on the sides), based on the design. Note that this is high altitude flight, thus radio antennas and GPS antennas is an option and not included in the kit provided.

  2. Explosives, detonators, pyrotechnics, and flammable or dangerous materials are strictly forbidden. All materials used must be safe for the personnel.

  3. The CAN-SAT must be powered by a battery and/or solar panels. It must be possible for the systems to be switched on for four continuous hours.

  4. The battery must be easily accessible, in case it has to be replaced or recharged in the field.

  5. The CAN-SAT must have an easily accessible master power switch.

  6. The recovery of the CAN-SAT is not guaranteed after the launch.

  7. The descent rate must be at least 6 m/s.

3.0   Recovery Method Of the Stratocacher

Parachute Compartment

Each team has a freedom to choose their own recovery method between Parachute or Rotating Blade Recovery Method.

1. The parachute design and diameter is based on the weight of the payload and the desired descent rate. The diameter of the parachute         shall not exceed with descent rate less than 6 m/s.

2. To calculate the diameter of your parachute please click here

3. The material for the parachute is no restriction, teams are allowed to use any material that are suitable but it is recommended that to use a     Nylon as the parachute.

4. The parachute must be attached on top of the Can-Sat.

5. Note that parachute compartment is OPTIONAL

6. There is no restriction on the Parachute deployment method. Each team can design your own deployment mechanism such as parachute         eject mechanism.

3.2   Rotating Blade

1.  The rotating blade recovery system as shown in figure above. It consist of a blade holder and Maximum of 4 propeller.

2.  The total diameter calculation is the same as parachute diameter calculation. The difference is each team need to decide the blade area.        There is no restriction how big the blade area that designed as long as the Stratocacher able to spin during its descent

3.  Note that, the propeller must be fold-able as shown in figure above.

4.  The propeller holder can be 3D Printed or made by other materials based on the creativity of each team.

5.  It is recommended that each team use Plastic Cardboard material for the blade.
